Hey mamas,

Are you feeling overwhelmed trying to choose the right photographer for your newborn photoshoot? Trust me—you’re not alone. As a newborn photographer here in Peoria, IL, I talk to so many moms who feel the same way. There are a lot of options out there, and when your tiny new baby is involved, it can feel like a big decision (because it is!).

I wanted to share a few simple tips to help guide you and make this process feel a little less stressful:

First, ask your family and friends for recommendations. Hearing about someone else’s experience can be so helpful and reassuring. It’s a great way to get a feel for not just the photos, but what it’s actually like to work with that photographer.

Next, make sure you’re choosing someone who specializes in newborn photography and has experience handling babies. Your baby’s safety should always come first—before style, before price, before anything else.

Take time to look through portfolios, too. Every photographer has a unique style, and it’s so important that it aligns with your vision. Don’t choose someone based only on price if their work doesn’t feel like you.

Another thing to consider—do they provide props like wraps, hats, and headbands? Having those included can take so much pressure off you. You’ve got enough going on already!

Also, don’t be shy—hop on a call with your photographer! Getting a feel for their personality really matters. You want someone you feel comfortable with, someone you can truly vibe with. (And trust me, we love chatting with you!)

Of course, budget is important. Make sure their pricing fits what you’re able to invest, but also remember the value of experience and quality. That saying “you get what you pay for” really does apply here—especially when it comes to something as special as your newborn photos.

Be sure to ask where the session will take place as well. If it’s in the photographer’s home, check that they have a clean, dedicated space that’s separate from everyday living areas—and pet-free. Your baby’s safety and comfort always come first.

And finally—trust your gut. If something doesn’t feel quite right, keep looking. The right photographer will make you feel completely comfortable, safe, and excited.

So… could I be the right newborn photographer for you? I would absolutely love to chat and get to know you. Send me a message anytime!
